A day to remember in Addis Alem.

The 21st November 2015 saw the opening of Toby’s House – our purpose built hostel for girls, to carry on from Underhill House when our lease runs out in December.

This project has moved forward with amazing speed and efficiency – the land was donated in 2013, the foundation stone laid in 2014 – and now the opening! Guest of honour was a previous president of Ethiopia, Girma Wolde-Giorgis, whose presence attracted national media attention. The village gave us a cow and a sheep to celebrate, and, after all the speeches we entertained 300 to lunch!

Toby’s House is our biggest project by far, and emphasises our commitment to education, especially of the young women of the community, but we are also moving ahead with health, sanitation and water projects. In 2016 we hope to upgrade the Delivery Suite in Addis Alem Health Centre.
