Selam!

Greetings from sunny Ethiopia. Tigist and Ally have arrived in Addis Ababa on a self funded trip to do some monitoring, evaluation, training and to help launch the pilot period poverty project that was the focus of The Big Give Christmas challenge in 2021. This long overdue trip is important to meet with our partner For-Development Association and to meet with the community in Ejere. They are very excited and will be taking lots of photos to share with you all when they get back.

We were delighted to be introduced to a charity called Days For Girls (UK) via the “Small but Significant” Group of Ethiopian charities we are part of. Days for Girls have groups called chapters across the UK who sew the most beautiful and practical sanitary packs.
They have been operating since 2008 and have redesigned and developed their product many times resulting to obtain the best quality. The groups make the packs and supply them  for free to organisations they partner with. We are delighted that thanks to the hard work of their volunteers around the country that we will be sending out 514 packs  (100 of which Tigist and Ally carried in their suitcases) to begin the pilot period poverty. If the initial launch is successful and the feedback from the girls in the schools is positive we will be sending out more kits thanks to Days for Girls .

The money raised in the big give will cover the cost of shipping the kits out, logistics off clearing customs, transport to Ejere and the training days with the schoolgirls. This has been made possible due to the support everyone gave to our Christmas fundraising appeal. Thank you so much.

Also arriving in Ethiopia are some new laptops, one for training, monitoring and evaluation and the others for the girls who have gone to University so they can keep up with their studies while competing against those from urban areas who already have their own IT equipment. This is thanks to the generosity of all our supporters and we want to say a huge thank you once more.

Ros's latest adventure

Ros Bennet is embarking on another adventure in her narrow boat and will be raising funds for For-ethiopia along the way. This time our intrepid octogenarian will be taking her narrow boat up the Severn, We have been reliably informed this is no easy feat for a narrow boat.  http://www.justgiving.com/rosbennet-dingisywayo
