Nigel Walker and Jenny Stanley Smith have today (25 February 2013) arrived in Ethiopia to install three more solar refrigerators.
This will be Nigel’s third trip out to Addis Alem having already installed four in rural health posts. Nigel said ‘Its a real pleasure to walk into the villages and get a real taste of life in the country side, always a good crowd on hand to help. The visit to the school is always a pleasure where we play some basketball and football’. Nigel is wanting to accompany a health worker on a vaccine ‘cold run’ if possible, to get a first hand experience of the journeys these young women have to make to vaccinate all the children in their health post area.
Jenny will be returning for the second time and said ‘I think that particularly as they come as a standalone piece of kit the value these fridges bring to rural communities and health workers cannot be overestimated, and I’m very much looking forward to re-visiting Ethiopia and working with the inspiring people at FDAE. I hope to visit the girls at Underhill house again and see if they have made head nor tail of the chord chart and guitar I left last year, and hopefully have time to give another lesson or two to those who want to learn guitar’.
Three more Dulas Solar powered VC65 vaccine refrigerators will be installed at rural clinics in the Ejere region. Supported by the staff of For Development Association – Ethiopia, they will again be sleeping in the villages and experiencing rural life with the communities.
