March 2023 News from Ethiopia

We are delighted to report that work is well under way to complete the new foundations for Prudence House, our second girl’s education centre. After covid and red tape delays it is all systems go in stage 1 of the build. On Saturday 11th February the community Elders were invited for a blessing ceremony for the new build. It was also a lovely opportunity to combine this with a celebration of the leaving grade 12 girls who have just received their exam results. A great excuse for a big party.

This year has been challenging for many students who sat final year examination. It is never easy to compete for limited university spaces relative to the number of students that take the exam. We are delighted that two students (a female and male) had been able to get the grades required to get to university. We celebrate everyone’s achievement and recognise learning is more than passing the final year exam. However, one particular mention and encouraging news is seeing one of the highest scores (615/700) gained by one of the students FE supported for the past 4 years in partnership with the high school, and FDAE.
