Many thanks to all who supported our Ethiopian Christmas Celebration this year. It was a wonderful party and great to see so many people enjoying hearty Ethiopian food, eating with their hands in the traditional style. The auction was tremendous fun, with strong battles for the cider tour, the African rug, holiday cottage and blow pipe. Guests were also blown away by the extraordinary symphony of Hannah Berhanu and Jamie Thomas, entitled ‘The Addis Alem Project‘ after our village.

As well as to have fun, make new friends and celebrate Ethiopia, the aim of the event was to raise money to help with the purchase of our first motorbike ambulance. These bikes are wonderful bits of kit which enable women in labour to reach a health centre if they or their baby are in trouble.

In total, our night raised over £3,000, which is a significant proportion of the cost of a bike. Thank you all for donating so generously. We hope to have our first one up and running in Addis Alem by September this year and we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Diana Taylor kindly documented the day on video. Take a look at behind the scenes as well as highlights of the event:

Many thanks again to all those who helped out during the day and came to support us in the evening. Please come to our feast next year to celebrate our tenth anniversary. It promises to be our best yet, with more fabulous music and, fingers crossed, some traditional Ethiopian dancers.
